History A small energetic group of individuals with the goal of promoting live theatre arts, began in 1966 as The Masqueraders. In the late 1980s The Masqueraders revamped their company and changed their name to The Theatre Company of The Dalles. Most seasons are composed of three performances and the Missoula Children's Theatre in the summer. The Theatre Company sponsors the Shelia Burke Memorial Scholarship and also donates to the Historic Civic Auditorium Restoration Fund. The Theatre Company holds productions locally in The Dalles. All involved with the making of the productions including directors, cast, and all technical support are entirely non-paid volunteers from the Gorge area. One of the Company's goals over the years has been to secure their own facility for performances. Due to expenses this goal has remained unattainable. The Theatre Company may never own their own stage, but will remain a partner in reopening the Civic Auditorium. The Theatre Company will continue to deliver a season of live theatre in the form of comedies, dramas, mysteries, musicals, and dinner shows. The company's purpose has always been the development of theatre and the allied arts among all ages in The Dalles and surrounding communities; to provide a cultural and educational public service, and to promote the assimilation of theatre arts into the civic and social life of the geographic area. We welcome anyone that would enjoy participating as an actor or assisting with a production. Click here if you would like to sign up. |
